Murrieta Firefighters Revive Unconscious Cat With CVS-Donated Oxygen Masks
September 26, 2013
One cat is very lucky to be alive with the help of some fast-acting Murrieta firefighters. On Wednesday, September 18, 2013, firefighters responded to a blaze at a smoke-filled home where the cat was found unconscious with labored breathing. The firefighters used one of their new oxygen masks designed specifically for animals to revive the fluffy Persian cat. The masks were donated by California Veterinary Specialists and this was the first occasion they were used. Fire Chief Shobert sent an email thanking Dr. Carr at CVS. “Your equipment donation to MFD saved a feline’s life last night at a house fire, where a pet was overcome by smoke!” Read the complete story at NBCLosAngles.com.

Golden retrievers have higher rates of cancer than other breeds of dogs and as a result their lifespans are significantly shorter. Now scientists in Colorado are trying to figure out why cancer is so widespread in this breed. Dr. Ogilvie is the Director for the Angel Care Cancer Center in Carlsbad explained that 56.6 percent of all goldens are affected. And it's those numbers that are the reason the Morris Animal Foundation in Colorado is doing a study on 3,000 golden retrievers, over their lifetime, to see what might be the cause.
