We had a great Christmas at our house on Christmas Eve. Evelyn had her two sons and their families visiting. Was pleased to see Marty, Evelyn's youngest son, his girl friend, Kim, and Klyde, their dog. A few weeks back, a black-and-white terrier mix named Chance entered a clinical trial for a drug that may offer a completely new way to combat cancer—not only in dogs, but in people, too. The drug, made by San Diego-based Genelux, uses a genetically engineered virus to annihilate tumor cells. CARLSBAD, Calif. -- A canine cancer facility in Carlsbad is conducting a new study that could potentially be a game-changer when it comes to treating pets and eventually humans. “It has not been done,” said Oncologist and Internist Dr. Greg Ogilvie who is also Director of the Angel Care Cancer Center. “It’s a new area of research that is exciting and we hope will develop not only benefits for animals with cancer but also people.”

Inclusion Criteria: Clinically healthy dogs with stage III/IVa cyto- or histologically confirmed intermediate or large cell B cell lymphoma and acceptable recent chest radiographs and blood work. Study will cover costs of flow cytometry, an abbreviated CHOP therapy +/- monoclonal antibody treatment plus weekly in-hospital rechecks and restagings at CVS.
